We are proud to announce that Razvan Barsan + Partners has been awarded the 2018 Bucharest Annual Architecture prize in the “Architecture, Conversion, and Restoration” section. The prestigious award recognizes our project located at 46 Lascar Catargiu Blvd, a building constructed in 1911 from the plans of architect Toma Dobrescu.
Built in 1911 according to the plans of architect Toma Dobrescu, the building located at 46 Lascar Catargiu Blvd. recently underwent a renewal process that brought it back to live and light. Crossing the boulevard, the observer will be intrigued by the contrasting presence of two identical buildings, symmetrically arranged, because they will visualize both the contemporary intervention.
Elements related to contemporary technology are integrated in such a way as to be as inconspicuous as possible. Emphasis has been placed on highlighting the architectural details specific to the beginning of the last century: original floors and wall and ceiling claddings, the massive wooden staircase expertly restored, carpentry and ironwork, the original roof structure, facade details. The attic has been transformed into a multifunctional, open space, minimally finished with exposed wood and brick.
The intervention was intended from the outset to be as subtle as possible, so as not to detract from the beauty of the old building, and the adaptation to contemporary life standards was done while respecting all the elements that bear witness to the architecture of that period.
