Tube House, a Futuristic Private Residence by Răzvan Bârsan + Partners
Most houses follow the same logic. Rooms are connected by corridors, and spaces are clearly separated. This project takes a different approach.
Tube House is a private residence located near Bucharest, developed by the architecture firm Răzvan Bârsan + Partners.
The project sits on a 5,000 sqm site, with a built area of 878 sqm, and follows a clear architectural idea: creating a house defined by light, movement and a strong spatial structure. The plan is structured along a central axis. On one side, the private areas. On the other, the day spaces Between them, a defining architectural element.
A concrete tube, placed at the center of the house, replaces the conventional hallway. This element is not only functional, but also spatial and experiential. It connects the house while creating a distinct atmosphere through natural light.
The tube is perforated by skylights, allowing light to enter and change throughout the day. Moving through the house becomes more than circulation. It becomes part of the experience.
This approach reflects a contemporary and slightly futuristic architecture, where technical structures are integrated into residential design.
At the end of this axis, the house opens towards a SPA area with indoor and outdoor pools, extending the spatial sequence and giving purpose to the movement through the house.
The project also integrates a glasshouse with exotic vegetation, visible from the living, dining and circulation spaces, reinforcing the connection between architecture and nature.
All main spaces open towards the exterior through large glazed surfaces. Some curtain walls can be fully opened, allowing the interior to extend outside and creating a continuous relationship with the landscape.
The house follows the natural line of vegetation specific to the Romanian plains. Its low height and elongated form allow it to integrate into the site without disrupting the existing environment.
